So, Blade at #altontowers is finally being removed. It was running on borrowed time for a while but it’s sad news. The park needs more “intermediate” rides, and its replacement next door of Ripsaw is too thrill for some people. It must be a cheap ride to run, and seemed to be a stable machine, so it makes little sense

The Dungeons closing is less surprising, I just hope it doesn’t turn into an empty building for 11 months of the year

Got to ride the "Curse At Alton Towers" for the first time yesterday. I really like this latest version of their haunted house. I quite like seeing the re-imagining of the old ride, with a lot of old elements recycled. Lot of good optical effects, especially in the pre-show. Laserists will be asking why is the lightning pink, and probably figuring it out too! 🤣 Excellent ride staff really set the mood! 👍 #altontowers #ukthemeparks #sonotmastadon

#themepark #altontowers was so unreliable this year, I was in the park for 10 hours and got just 4 rides in. Nemesis Reborn (60m), Nemesis Subterra (35m) Wickerman (120m), Smiler (45m) and a brief aquarium visit... One coffee break, and a packed lunch, the rest was queuing for running rides, walking (13.5km) or turning around because of a closure like Galactica (65m), Also no one queuing 45 minutes for Hex.

Me and @louisa_ went to Alton Towers yesterday, a Thursday, during school term time, in October. The queue times were just how long it took to quickly walk along the empty queue channels, which sometimes took several minutes - a stark reminder of how long the queues can actually be. I couldn't queue that long for anything I didn't need to live.

The sign that defined queue jumping conspicuously didn't include paying extra to use the queue jumping lane (which they call "fast track")

Today we rode Nemesis Rejigged, the Smiler again, Spinball Whizzer, Nemesis Suboptimal and we saw the fishes at Sea Life centre… Wicker Man has been closed all weekend so had to skip that, but otherwise that’s a clean sweep! Gutted the Skyride’s closed for refurb but given how tired and old most of the place is looking it’s good to see they’re refreshing stuff #AltonTowers

After an hour queuing for Spinball Whizzer and minutes from getting on the ride, it’s broken down with several people trapped in their cars at the station… the ride ops went over with a clipboard and, I assume, took their orders for comped drinks and sandwiches, meanwhile we’re waiting it out in the hope it’ll start back up 🤞🏻 #AltonTowers

Checked in, drink poured, now to toss to see who gets the bottom bun… wait I mean time to shower, get this coaster hair tamed and get us off for some dinner 🦑 also the heater is hot but it’s definitely switched off so that’s fun #AltonTowers

Galactica, The Curse @ Alton Manor, River Rapids, Rita, Th13teen and Smiler done today + 7 billion steps round the gardens… Queue times have been pretty decent, max was 40 mins for the Smiler 🎢 Now off to get 🥂/💦 at Splash Landings and see what mischief we can get up to tonight #AltonTowers #SmileAlways
Edit: 0 wait time for Oblivion at the end so we quickly ticked that off too

So out of the events, which would I recommend? They're both great fun, and if you've never done either of them you'll find something to enjoy at both.

However, I have to say the quality of Thorpe's offering was significantly higher than that at Alton. It was obvious that they'd invested pretty heavily into the event and it really showed through. I really hope Alton can bounce back and improve for next year, when we'll also have Nemesis back.
