I'm already on ep 11 and once again it's clear that she will end up with the ML I don't root for.
As a human being he's definitely improved since the first episodes, but if it weren't for the FL character I would have dropped the whole thing.

Still I am not sure I like where the plot is heading. If from a scary assassin she becomes the maid in distress, I will be extremely disappointed.

Also the mages may have powers but they seem to be a bit slow to catch up.

Day 18: Must-Watch Fantasy

Not really being into the fantasy genre in kdrama-land I'm going to be lazy today and just go with, you guessed it: Alchemy of Souls - Entertaining, could fit into the "all the tropes" category, funny. It's also forever staring at you on the Netflix home screen if the algo gets a whif of kdrama interest :blobcatgiggle:

February 2: Drama dropped, picked up again and enjoyed

Not sure it really counts as “dropped” since I watched so little of it the first time, but…
I started to watch and didn’t even make it through the first episode bc it seemed really terrible (starts off with a big fight in which I had no stakes bc I didn’t know the characters). Eventually went back to it bc people kept saying it was good and it turned out to be one of my very favorites.

Sapsali , the dog in Korean TV-drama "Alchemy Of Souls " .

"A dog that chases away evil spirits and misfortune".
Sapsali has a rich history going back to Silla , 230 AC.
Kept by aristocrats first, later by commoners.
Appearing in many legends and myths, almost extinct in the 1990 ' s
Saved by Dr. Ha Ji-hongs, who brought it back from the last 8 dogs remaining.
Sapsali is a protected race now.

I am enjoying the #cdrama #TheDouble even though it heavily employs something I hate: 30 year olds playing teenagers. (I just have to get over this, I know!)

Anyway, I was thinking about who the actors should be if it were ever redone as a #kdrama...

I think the characters are similar to some in #MyDearest and #AlchemyOfSouls...

Duke Su: Namkoong Min!
Ye Shijie: Kim Do-hoon
Shen Yurong: Kim Soo-Hyun
Jiang Jingrui: Choi Hyun-wook!
Zhou Yanbang: Choo Young-woo

Alchemy of Souls 2: Light and Shadow
(2022 - Netflix, 10 1:21 eps)

The completion of Alchemy of Souls - a beautiful show with a lot of symbolism, wit, & depth.

The 2nd part feels very different. Our lead has gone through some stuff & he is a changed man. It is much darker, which is appropriate considering that our lead is in a dark place now.

Many people complained about the change in the FL, but if you watch carefully, it makes complete sense. Although you may wonder how you could be as invested as you were during part 1, watching the characters work through the problems pulls you in again.

Great acting again makes an unusual story come across as believable. The side characters get more room for their stories. I'm glad I watched both seasons at once, with a watch party, to get me through the first few episodes of part 2 because I was not happy initially.

Alchemy of Souls
(2022 - Netflix, 20 1:20 eps)

The best Hong sisters' drama, incorporating elements of Camelot & the Lady of the Lake with lots of symbolism.

Set in a fictional country, with some Joseon-inspired costumes, it is the story of mages who work to fight evil. It has comedy, romance, battles, magic, political intrigue, gorgeous sets & costumes, marvelous writing, & great OST. The main love story is epic. The bromance is touching. The 2 leads shine in their roles, but all the acting is excellent. The sword fighting in silk robes will make you swoon. While having some classic story elements, it's fresh and profound.

What are previous generations responsible for? Do your desires outweigh societal goals? How does society treat outcasts? Is a hierarchical society sustainable? Besides laughing & crying, you'll be pondering these questions too.

@KoreanPassion

I love a "slice of life" drama but ugh, the ending to #SomethingInTheRain" was awful. I preferred the writer's #OneSpringNight, again with #JungHaeIn as the male lead.

Suggestions, not knowing what you have seen or can view but based on your listed likes:

#CrashCourseInRomance
#HospitalPlaylist
#WhenTheCamelliaBlooms #ItsOkayToNotBeOkay
2 oldies but a goodies are #FatedToLoveYou and #ItsOkayThatsLove

#AlchemyOfSouls (I prefer season 1)

#LawlessLawyer
#Monster

#MyCountryNewAge
#MoonLoversScarletHeartRyeo
