Mary and her colleagues lived in a rebuilt house of #Akhenaten's time, and I tried several times to make sense of the very few photos in the archive that showed it.
In the end, I gave up entirely on an embroidered representation, using the grid reference instead, to recall not just the dig house, but the wind blown sand sticking to Mary's freshly-typed sheets.
As for the watercolour - I found a few details in my reference photo by tone-chasing, but I have absolutely no confidence that Mary would recognise the house from my efforts!

Whatever the level of devotion #Akhenaten's subjects felt to his singular god, the sun disc, they still had amulets and ornaments littering their houses.
I enjoyed trying to get the sense of gloss of the glaze and the uneven colour in some of them with my watercolours.

As the heretic pharaoh was later on expunged from history by his successors and the #Amun priests as much as possible, I have often wondered whether this radical concept survived this severe punishment..
I spent some of yesterday doing experiments with possible techniques for the the overlays, and ended with with hands like Lady Macbeth's (always assuming that Duncan's blood was purple acrylic ink!). For such tenacious colour, the effect on the gauze was disappointingly feeble.
I'm concerned about the inktense because the first gauzes are beginning to look much muddier than when I started, but I think acrylic ink is not a better solution, in the end.
I'm still struggling with the final version of the overlays for #DreamsOfAmarna. This time I'm experimenting with making stencils.
It involved an enormous amount of studio rearrangement to find the mat and the cutting tool.
Another experiment for the overlays - this is acrylic ink, mixed to shade, and painted on, and I've tried spraying water on one side before it dries, to soften the edges a bit.
Considering I didn't have any aid to memory beside me, I'm not displeased. Not full-lipped enough, but a memory of a memory of #Akhenaten, at least!
Now I wait to see how it looks when it's dry...
