Oh. Turns out I haven't played a full game (aside from some #MetroidFusion randomizer I forgot to toot about) since Sonic Origins in January.
Anyway, it might just have been a long time since I last played it, or maybe there are translation differences from the PAL version I used to play? A lot of really awkward English lines, regardless.
But it's a great Zelda game. The blueprint for OoT.
So it’s #vgmwednesday again? Well, since it’s on #NintendoMusic now, here’s the Hyrule Castle theme from #Zelda #ALinkToThePast:

God this song has just become iconic hasn’t it? Appearing in basically every Zelda game since ALLTP, it’s one of the most popular recurring themes in the series, and for good reason.

#ALinkToThePast is always a good time.
Though, something i have noticed is two minor things with the #GameBoyAdvance version.
Firstly, when using the pegasus boots, you can dash through pots instead of bonking of them. This wouldn't be a problem if I didn't utilise a pot bonk in Ganon's tower to skip a section with invisible floors.
Secondly, there is a small change to Ice Palace in Basement 5 and 6. It changes the puzzle before the boss fight. In the SNES version, you push a block down to the floor below to put on a switch, or use the Staff of Somaria. In the GBA version you have to drop yourself down on the other side of a wall that wasn't there in the SNES version.
I am not explaining it well.
But anyway, that was a comfy deathless run, now to see if I can get into the 4 Swords bonus dungeon!
So, something I find quite interesting.
The missable achievements for the #GameBoyAdvance version of #ALinkToThePast don't include any of the damageless boss fights.
Missables are only the free fire shield and a deathless run.
This implies that you can re-fight these bosses without having to restart the save file. That's kinda interesting. Might have to explore that at some point.
ALttP definitely is the palette cleanser I needed after Chu Chu Rocket.
It is my most completed game, but that was because there was a period of time I was doing randomiser runs, either solo, races, or co-op runs on a semi regular basis.
So this completion should be a pretty gentle cruise, which is what I need right now.
As an additional fun fact, the GBA version was the first one I ever completed, I remember borrowing aLttP from somewhere on the SNES, but never finished it. I got stuck in Ice Palace.

Forever Linked
Probably shouldn't be playing on this yet but my partner has agreed to let me have my #RG40XXV early so I'm beginning my adventure.
First port of call is #LegendOfZelda #ALinkToThePast. I've never played the game, yes. Well, not really. I played it as an 8 year old who didn't know shit about nothing; I never stuck with it.
30 odd years later and I'm finally ready to scratch it off my list of shame.
WE DID IT! WE DID IT! OMG YES!
It took over 3.5 hours across two nights, but we finally got a flawless victory against Ganon. We really struggled with the firebats, but we learned an attack pattern combined with aggression and ideal positioning so we only had to deal with a single firebat ring cycle.
The trick is to be super aggressive from the beginning, then when Ganon moves down, position yourself on the right between Ganon and the fireplace. You'll be able to bounce back from your attacks a little bit faster, get more hits in more quickly, and limit exposure to firebats.
This may be our favorite mastery so far!
We're only one achievement away from a Mastery of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past! The statistically hardest achievement is the one we just completed. Now to attempt a perfect Ganon fight.
We don't have high hopes, in part because it is very late, but we will try for about an hour, then it'll be time for bed.
We are making good progress in our final run of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Turns out we made a mistake during save file duplication and had to start from the beginning instead of starting from Dark World. A small delay, but soon we will enter dungeon 2 in Dark World, then we will move on to 4 to get the glove upgrade.
We are enjoying the challenge of this bottleless run. We died a few times already as a result, but we're happy about the difficulty of these achievements. When we finally get them, it will be validating.
But... Will it be what finally puts us in the Top 10% on RetroAchievements? Time will tell.
We made great progress in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past tonight. Only four achievements left to go!
The bottleless run is going to be quite the challenge, but my headmate assures me we have enough experience with the game to pull this off.
Purchased #GoodnightKnight on my switch the other night at an insane cost of $0.36 and wow! This little indie title is a blast to play. Evokes memories of #alinktothepast (SNES) but certainly has a different feel to the combat. Can't wait to play more!
