The Ethiopians – Engine 54

Freedom Train is a compilation released in 2013 with tracks from the original album by The Ethiopians called “Slave Call,” and a few more from the late 60s and 70s, including the original version of “Train to Skaville.”

The Ethiopians were one of Jamaica’s best-loved harmony groups during the late ska, rocksteady and early reggae […]

Dr. Demento Presents: The Greatest Novelty Records Of All Time (Volume III - The 1960s)
1985 U.S. pressing

Some late night chuckles for last spin of the night.

All the hilarious usual suspects of the novelty realm are here; Tiny Tim, Bryan Hyland, Napoleon XIV, The Trashmen, and my personal favorite, Ray Stevens’ sublimely absurd “Guitarzan”!

I believe Dr. Demento did God’s work, and was a king among men. Someone needs to make a legit biopic on him NOT starring Rainn Wilson.

Ellie Greenwich - Composes, Produces, and Sings

I posted an album from this artist a few weeks ago, and since then have been trying hard to get my hands on this, her other album, at a reasonable cost. This arrived this morning from New York, via Chicago, London and Exeter.
As a writer and producer, she is very important in the history of rock/pop music, and well worth researching for anyone interested in such matters.

Please Please Me - The Beatles

I recall that my parents had a copy of this, The Beatles first album, when we lived in Otorohanga, Aotearoa New Zealand in the early 60s. My father disliked "pop music", and probably only bought this out of curiosity. Certainly, I was the only member of the family that ever played it.
Reading up on the album, I learn that the whole thing was recorded in a single day, with the morning taken up with non-recording play throughs.
