Another addition to my use of Pinboard: I observe that I already bookmark more things that are interesting than I did with Pocket. Maybe a little personal "hype" effect for me, but I think this will continue for a long time, because I'm something of a "digital hoarder", if you will.

And after using Pinboard more often, I'm suddenly using Mastodon more than before 😄 seems like a good side effect

Thanks to the suggestion of @tal, I'm now a happy Pinboard user for at least the next two years. Only thing which made it tough for me to use Pinboard is that it is not easy to find a good mobile app and a good extension for Safari.

I'm now using Pinstachio on my iPhone and on my MacBook. I can use it in Safari via the share sheet, but I would have liked it to have it like an extension.

A perfect solution for me would be something like the Zotero extension. Just one click and all the important metadata and the link will be saved in Pinboard + a good and easy to use UI.

But for now, I'm happy with what I have now. Maybe someone can recommend some nice tools for using .

#servicetweet

@tal I found it too and it looks pretty good. And thanks to your mention of Pinboard, I just found out that you can set bookmarks as private.

But are bookmarks saved securely?

I searched many hours for a privacy-resprecting bookmark manager / read-it-later app and didn’t found anything which is a replacement for Pocket.

Someone has any recommendations for a good app? I just want to collect links, nothing more 😄

Just a reminder that sometimes the best security is to simply turn off internet connected devices when not in use—which also gives your mind and utilities bill a much needed break! ⚡

@Cheatha es sind immer die wichtigen Details, die fehlen!

@Gargron Hopefully they all stay on Mastodon 😄 great work you all are doing!

Designing a secure way to upload, encode and encrypt files is pretty complex. At least, the way I'm currently doing it seems complex, maybe I'm overthinking stuff too much...

This is kinda nuts.. Mastodon just surpassed Signal in the social networking category on the AppStore

Congrats @Gargron

I‘m serious when I say that without people like @stux and his team, who invest their free time and money, we wouldn’t be able to benefit from all the great advantages of open-source community projects. They are the reason why we have such good alternativess to Twitter or WhatsApp (regarding Signal).

People, who are using this freely available software should really be happy and ask how they can support these projects. Remember, while donations might be the best immediate help, it is also very crucial for such projects to raise awareness and spread the word. That way, more and more people can enjoy the work of FOSS developers and the developers themselves can enjoy seeing how their work creates a huge community that everyone wants to be part of and contribute to it.

And I tell you this from the perspective of a developer of an open source project who knows what that means.

@stux to hijack this post, it's also important to know that instances are run by individuals, meaning they're also paid by individuals. @stux runs a very large instance.

So thanks are in order, but also consider donating so they can keep it up! Here's a post with more info: mstdn.social/@stux/10811399421

Even after already being a user for some days, I also want to take part to .

I‘m a 20 y/o Computer Science student in Germany. Beside of playing Handball, I also like to code on my own projects and to contribute to open source projects. Currently I‘m learning more about cloud computing. I‘m also the developer of the Wikipedia Discord Bot, a chatbot used by over 1,2m users.

I will mostly toot in English, some toots might be in German. I would like to connect with some other developers to share some knowledge and to learn more.
