Designing a secure way to upload, encode and encrypt files is pretty complex. At least, the way I'm currently doing it seems complex, maybe I'm overthinking stuff too much...

This is kinda nuts.. Mastodon just surpassed Signal in the social networking category on the AppStore

Congrats @Gargron

I‘m serious when I say that without people like @stux and his team, who invest their free time and money, we wouldn’t be able to benefit from all the great advantages of open-source community projects. They are the reason why we have such good alternativess to Twitter or WhatsApp (regarding Signal).

People, who are using this freely available software should really be happy and ask how they can support these projects. Remember, while donations might be the best immediate help, it is also very crucial for such projects to raise awareness and spread the word. That way, more and more people can enjoy the work of FOSS developers and the developers themselves can enjoy seeing how their work creates a huge community that everyone wants to be part of and contribute to it.

And I tell you this from the perspective of a developer of an open source project who knows what that means.

@stux to hijack this post, it's also important to know that instances are run by individuals, meaning they're also paid by individuals. @stux runs a very large instance.

So thanks are in order, but also consider donating so they can keep it up! Here's a post with more info: mstdn.social/@stux/10811399421

Even after already being a user for some days, I also want to take part to .

I‘m a 20 y/o Computer Science student in Germany. Beside of playing Handball, I also like to code on my own projects and to contribute to open source projects. Currently I‘m learning more about cloud computing. I‘m also the developer of the Wikipedia Discord Bot, a chatbot used by over 1,2m users.

I will mostly toot in English, some toots might be in German. I would like to connect with some other developers to share some knowledge and to learn more.

It will be interesting to see how many will stay on Mastodon after some days.

I guess the influx of new users to will be higher than ever before.

At least I hope so 👍

I may need to upscale the server after all :thinktink:

But that would mean an increase of over €110 extra per month.. :amaze:

Currently the bills are over €500 per month already for all services I host.. :blobcatscared:

So.. uh.. I wanna ask, if you can and want to help me out paying the bills and upscale for mstdn.social please do! ❤️ :cat_hug_triangle:

Every bit is so much appreciated!

I don’t understand why is trending but I will do my part with 😂

My goal is to store the encrypted file on the blockchain and unfortunately a ciphertext doesn't really help me with this.

Researching how to encrypt files in-transit…
Seems like that it is possible with HashiCorp Vault but the result of encrypting the file (as far as I can see) is just an ciphertext instead of an actual encrypted file.

Hope I find any other solution for this or I need to implement something by myself 😬
