Amazon is now using AI voices to dub movies for streaming on Prime.
This technology "underscores their commitment to inclusivity" — for everyone except the voice actors who will lose work if we accept this.

@willmckinley Not only voice actors, but it is the worst kind of tool for censorship.
With subtitles, if you understand the language you can see what they say may not match what they subtitle. The other way, they can make them say anything (as i censorship).

I think something is lost when you don’t hear the original language, even if you don’t understand any of it. The sound of the language complements all the other elements of the film. Give me subtitles to read any day of the week.

A lot is lost when you replace the voice of real actors (who understand what they are saying) and work with translators who respect the cultural references and prosody of the language. In many cultures, such as Quebec, dubbing employs many artists. And that makes for real cultural inclusiveness.
I really like subtitles, but reading them requires an extra effort. Sometimes you watch a film or series just to relax. Another reason to boycott Amazon.

Good point, thanks! The intended “feel” of the film remains, the jobs remain culturally inclusive, and reading the movie isn’t a necessity. Win-win all around. 
And YES to boycotting Amazon!

it cuts out translators, makes the translations worse and (in the worst case) will be forced on the users like they do on YouTube
