The JNU price hike isn't just about fees. BJP's mindset is that well-off people are more complacent. That is their vote bank. People who come from the grassroots are more attuned to the problems faced by the poor and in a place like JNU, they get a voice that is hard to shut up.

If only those who can afford higher fees get into the college, they expect the overall awareness about the marginalized will decrease, as will the willingness to stick neck out to confront authority about something wrong.

People who think JNU is being attacked because it has Nehru in the name, etc... that is just a bonus. The real problem JNU represents is a large pool of articulate people who are well aware of problems faced by the poor within reach of major news media.

Modi bhakts call modi a great leader or even a statesman, but this cancelling of assam visit is exactly why he isn't one.

The CAA most affects people of assam. He should have gone there talked to the protestors, put forth his views, given them assurances and reached some agreement.

But no he will tweet about assam when there's a internet shutdown there.
