trunks.social

After 5(?) months of weekend development, the day has come! 🙌

**trunks for Mastodon** is out of beta for and ! :android: :apple:

See the inline thread for links per platform!

Please boost for reach 🥰

@trunksapp A little quick feedback on the web.. the auto-hiding login form can be a little confusing if someone (like me) doesn’t catch on to what made the login form disappear at the start.

@trunksapp I do not know if you are aware and it may be on purpose even:

On pretty much every Android app I can long-press a word to select it (like I did with the "and" in the screenshot).
This does not work in Trunks?!

@fennek it's disabled for now as I do some performance improvements.

@trunksapp are there any plans to open source trunks? I think being open source is a huge plus in the community. Have you considered it?

@trunksapp failed to translate ... please take a look at it🥶🔥

@trunksapp I’m using it now and I have to say, this is clean and responsive. I think I found my new Mastodon client. 😁

@trunksapp really liking the experience so far here on the Trunks app on iOS after moving from the mastodon app.
Pros:
-threaded conversations help make sense of the TL.
-reply, boost, favorite icons are “hidden” until you tap the toot, then become visible. This declutters the TL.
Cons:
-I can’t figure out how to refresh the TL to the next toot…it always jumps up to the most recent.
-toot order is slightly different from the Mastodon app. At first it gave me flashbacks to the “for you” jumble on Twitter, but it’s not that. They’re all still there and there are no intruders, just a little different order of toots.

@trunksapp I can’t login with mastodon.social I get a username or email address invalid regardless of whether I tick or untick to use an external browser.

But if I go to mastodon social in Safari I can log in there but of course that means I can’t use trunks. (Tried on iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 both on iOS 16.5)

@PhilipKing that error comes directly from the form you're logging into (unrelated to the app). Can you double check that you typed in mastodon.social and tried to sign in there? If you're still having issues, it's something separate from trunks

@trunksapp Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, I have typed mastodon.social correctly. I’m not sure I agree the problem is with mastodon.social.

It doesn’t explain why I can login on using Safari and other browsers (now tried) and through other clients (the official app, IceCubes and Ivory)

I noticed that through trunks I don’t get the iOS message to ask permission to log into trunks using mastodon.social.

@trunksapp @misc Wow. What a great app! Thanks for the alert.

@trunksapp downloaded from the play store to... Well... Play with it. I'll give some feedback for sure.

@trunksapp This looks like it has everything I would want in a mastodon app!

So I tried #Trunks, and it's not a bad experience. Certainly a fresh look on how cross-platform #Mastodon client can be done.

Things I liked that are mostly unique to #TrunksSocial:
- inline threads;
- interactions hidden behind click;
- draft preview;
- fixed suggestions area instead of popup;
- (mobile) swipe avatar to switch accounts..

@trunksapp, there are few things that need attention though (mostly web version):
- lack of source code and F-Droid release;
- flash of white loading screen despite me clearly setting dark mode;
- scrollbar is hard to reach without aiming slightly to the left of right end;
- there is time when scrollbar just freaks out completely and doesn't work normally;
- no smooth scrolling on web;
- drafts are not auto-saved;
- `⭾ Tab` navigation is missing;
- text field cursor has no immediate feedback upon using keyboard arrows;
- expected navigation via `Home`, `End`, `PageUp`, and `PageDown`;
- can't scroll/pan through suggestions.

@trunksapp Congratulations! 🎉 I enjoyed following along with the development, so thanks for sharing.

@trunksapp Great news, it’s been fun watching it grow through beta. The public release looks really nice.

@trunksapp This app is not working on my Apple Silicon computer under macOS Ventura. I am stuck on the initial screen with the logo and the rotating circle at the bottom. Is it compatible with macOS, do I need to do something special?

@trunksapp I saw the following error message on Console:

Runner[45504]: [VERBOSE-2:dart_vm_initializer.cc(41)] Unhandled Exception: MastodonException: 401 The access token is invalid

It looks like it is trying to login with an invalid token. Is there a way to delete any existing settings of this app on my Mac?

@paspro unfortunately i think your only option may be reinstalling. Apologies for the inconvenience, I'll try to handle that case better.

@trunksapp I have uninstalled and installed the app several times with no difference. My guess is that it stores the token in some file which remains in the system. Could you please point me to the location of this file?

@trunksapp Oohhh. Downloaded and this looks really interesting!!!!

@trunksapp LINK to official NON-GOOGLE apk would be nice and hoping it works on older android 4.4...?

@trunksapp love the app so far! There's some odd delay in tapping my account photo in the top right of the screen on Android however. Maybe worth a look :)

@trunksapp Good looking app, nice and clean.
Will there be the ability to swipe between sections? If not I'd like to see Home and Local buttons together.
Also, Alt text isn't showing on pics (Android version)

@trunksapp Congratulations! It has a nice and smooth UI and a good feature set. Would you consider adding an option to see a count of all boosts, likes, and replies instead of just those from the local instance? For those of us on smaller instances, it feels like we're missing out on how popular a post is and not seeing all of the replies. Thanks!

@trunksapp does this work reasonably okay for cackeliy?

@trunksapp congrats! It’s a really nice app to use (iOS). I’m looking forward to using it some more.

@trunksapp Congratulations!! Very impressive project, especially as a weekend project.
I'm very happy using it on android. Trunks made some great progress! The performance has noticeably improved for me lately.

Hope you'll be able to catch a break now or soon! 👏

@trunksapp when trying to login to mastodon.pnpde.social I get several JS-Errors and it loads forever

Wild guess: We use the WEB_DOMAIN configuration, where WEB_DOMAIN (mastodon.pnpde.social) differs from LOCAL_DOMAIN (pnpde.social) docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/co

@trunksapp Hmm, why does Trunks not show my boost of this post? 😅
Also, I think that #Trunks should show the pictures while editing a description for them, just like #Tusky does.

@trunksapp this is one of the best clients for mastodon. Thank you!

Small suggestion: can you please add a function that collapses correlated replies like in Reddit?

@trunksapp

Thanks for the app testing it now.

But little notice for the web client the left menu sidebar is only shown when I hover on the left side. Took me time to discover it. I hope you can add some Text-Note (that the user has to hover to reveal the left sidebar) or a button just the user clicks it open.

@trunksapp do you have icloud sync or API marker?

@afif Yeah, it uses the default markers API from mastodon.

@trunksapp so theoretically it will sync between iOS and Android?

@afif Please do! I'm responding on the web client right now - otherwise I browse on my Android phone - everything stays in sync.

@trunksapp it works, mostly. Is there a way to increase the text size?

@afif under accessibility settings

@trunksapp how do I make sure my timeline is synced to the marker? Do I leave it open for a minute? Is it automatic?

@trunksapp it keeps going back to the previous read position even though i have scrolled all the way up? Is it because the app on iOS is still open?

@afif yeah if you have them open at the same time, they will compete.
