A single picture taken in the #Netherlands

#Verdwijnpunt
Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal. Photo made by @robhoeijmakers
@stux that’s a really great shot
@stux The photograph went viral and its authenticity was heavily debated
As a web strategist it was fascinating to be in the middle of so much energy. https://webstrategiesblog.com/viral-photo/
@robhoeijmakers Oh wow really!
I grew up in the North of the NL and these scenes are quite "common"
Hope you don't mind I shared your photo! I only later discovered you on Masto
@stux No worries!
@robhoeijmakers I found your pic on some other platform on the web and later found out the author is on my very own instance
Such times makes me realize the internet is also quite "small" sometimes
@stux I posted it on Instagram, X and even on LinkedIn because I was really happy with it. Nothing really happed, it was weeks ago.
And then someone 'stole' it and it started like a wild fire. People were so kind to let me know.
Influencers with millions of followers started sharing it (mostly with credit) and it was a big thing on Reddit. It must have been shown more than 10 million times.
Crazy.

@stux stunning composition!!
@stux Amazing Picture!
@stux@mstdn.social
@ChaosKitsune how did i know that this was the netherlands without reading the description? :3
@stux This is crazy. It's perspective drawing course one in real life.
@stux WHen looking at this photo, my brain feels parted
@stux Superb composition!
@stux damn good shoot, feel like unreal
@stux Wow! Remarkable!
@stux
That messes with my head for some reason and I typically don’t see an uncanny valley. So this perhaps is one of the best shots I have seen!
@stux It's so beautiful I could cry.
@stux engine didnt finish loading the map, hopefully devs fix it (jokes aside. nice picture!)
@stux ok, that's very good.
@stux fairly sure I have driven along there.
@stux That blew my mind when i visited in 1998. There is no horizon hard to navigate
They know trees, in Europe. I took this in Luxemburg, back in the 1970's.
@stux It gives me a special kind of heart sickness. It's something out of my dreams.
@stux
Beautiful!!
@stux why is the dotted line on the right-side shoulder of the road
@stux oh snap, on the left side too?
I don't know how they do things in the netherlands, but in the US that dotted line means you can pass (at least, if i remember how to drive correctly, which i might'nt!) so I'm just imagining people passing a vehicle by merging directly into a guard rail lol
@stux That's...very orderly.
@stux
Is that Queen Anne’s Lace?
Isn’t that invasive?
"Thinking of Holland,
I see broad rivers go slowly
through endless low land."
Ok, this looks like a canal and not a river, but you get the idea
@stux
That look so unreal and real at the same time. Fascinating.
That's pretty amazing how it looks like two.
@stux Everything in the Netherlands just looks so nice - even the cities. I mean, I'm sure there are not so great parts, but as a Canadian I feel like there's so much we can learn from you - ecologically, urban space design, sociologically, and whatever the word for de-car-ifying the joint would be.
@chriswho Bit of a tangent here, but I was impressed by Vancouver. A city of 2 million, twice the size of the biggest Dutch city, but nice, clean and very, very friendly.
But of course, as a tourist, I didn't visit the bad parts, so my view is necessarily incomplete.
And ecologically... I did a common route, so I saw Banff and Jasper, walked on the Athabasca glacier and toured several thousands of kilometers through spectacular sceneries. Nothing like that in our country.
Also had an excursion to the end of the world, I saw eagles, flocks of wapiti deer, humpback and killer whales and bears chasing salmon... I'll never forget that trip
And yes, I've even looked into moving to Canada a few times. You know, just curious...
But I realise that I've only seen the nice parts, and have only spoken to the friendly people (although that seems to be the overwhelming majority). I'm sure Canada has its own challenges that I am not aware of.
@hans It does, but I spent most of my life in the Vancouver area/suburbs but a few years back moved to the Caribou in Central/Northern BC and BC is every bit as gorgeous as you might think. We have our issues, wildfires is a big new one thanks to climate change, but still feel really lucky to be here.
@chriswho Oh, but I certainly am aware of the forest fire problems. There were already problems with those woods when I was there, beetles who eat them and also the "regular" forest fires.
And I've followed the news in the past few years, it hasn't gotten better and may get a lot worse in decades to come.
But the challenges I meant, are the real state of the country, how society really is. I've seen a healthy, happy and friendy one, but I've only scratched the surface. Not a solid foundation for emigration plans.
There's a lot of polarisation going on in many, many western countries. I know how it is here, don't really know how it is there. Canada seems progressive enough and friendly to everyone, I like that. But it would take a lot more time to find out what's really what than one, fantastic journey.
@stux Let me guess, there's a machine that trims the tree branches so they don't fall on the road.
Newcomers to Germany are always amazed by the van with a rotating wet brush that scrubs the kilometer markers along the roads.
@stux@mstdn.social Couldnt be the netherlands: no bike lane
@stux there is something about the rigour of this that leaves me a little uneasy.
@stux great shot, I’m sure the author would love the credit
@llPK Couldn't find unfort
I'm gonna do reverse search, maybe it turns up something
@laurenshof @llPK Just what i was looking for! Thank you
@laurenshof @llPK I just found that @robhoeijmakers is also on Mastodon Even on our very own instance
@stux nice composition
