Just a little notice for pro-gun US politicians!
Here in Europe we play the same games, watch the same movies and read the same books and browse the same internet but we do not have daily mass shootings
"Daily deaths by gun" is not something normal and should not be accepted
Please stop finding excuses and start protecting your people
@stux "But my first amendment rights!" they shall scream.
Nevermind that that was meant back in the day for the colonists to protect against Britain. But yeah, since it wasn't specified "as such"...
Edit: seems it was second amendment. Fact remains the same: it was not meant what the gun toting people say it is for.
@stux Absolutely agree. And when people in the US say “it’s not the guns, it’s the mental illness”, I say “maybe you’re right, but if you don’t give a gun to mentally ill people, then you don’t have mass shootings”.
@botolo86 and offer better (mental) health care instead of guns
But we're exceptional here... exceptionally stupid, that is...
@stux The big issue is not laws but culture.
In Switzerland it is relatively easy to still acquire new machineguns legally.
It's just that in #Europe, #Mainstream #MassMedia don't commit #PropagandaOfTheDeed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3VQULyT390
Not to mention [mental] healthcare isn't paywalled to be unaffordable for the average Wageworker...
@stux But the folks that make these decisions for us wouldn't make all that sweet sweet NRA Lobbyist money if they did anything…
In Canada, where guns can be more easily smuggled across the border, we have an intermediate number of guns and an intermediate number of gun deaths.
It's almost as if there's a pattern.
@stux it’s corruption $$$ and distorted propaganda
@stux Oh yeah? Oh yeah? Well here in 'Merika, we believe in the #SecondAmendment ! Wich meens we should... have a well regulated militia! So let's... regulate our militias.
Yeah.
@SammyGalen@mstdn.social @stux@mstdn.social
World map showing the number of kills.
@stux Pretty much daily deaths by gun in Sweden these days. We regulate firearms quite extensively but criminals use illegal firearms. The laws mostly affect law-abiding citizens of course.
@torparskytt @stux most deaths by guns in one year in sweden was something like 60. that's over 300 days without gun deaths. hardly a daily occurrence.
not that i disagree there is a serious concern over increasing crime rates.
@stux A handgun is a machine designed for a single purpose, to kill human beings. Why the United States refuses to regulate killing machines is beyond my understanding.
@stux You’re gonna need to make a substantial campaign contribution and some generous stipends to political action committees before that request can be considered.
We’re just a hypocritical shithole country pretending to be a democracy.
@stux You stab and mug each other. Your murder rates make us jealous...
It's not about the guns. It's about control and being able to force our politicians and bankers into wearing brown pants. And those pants best be brown when they make decisions affecting us and future generations.
@SleightWryder That's complete bull, dude. Absolute absence of fact. But even if we had way more stabbings than you, it's really fucking hard to kill more than one person at a time with just a knife.
@Rhube @SleightWryder@mastodon.social I just blocked them. Only joined yesterday, zero followers, zero following & a handful of antagonistic "hot takes".
@Rhube Just like the guns being the cause of all violence here is as well. And you can be very creative with a knife. You just haven't taken away enough guns yet...
@Rhube btw if we didn't have guns, we couldn't march on these assholes and make an example of them could we. I mean it might be more satisfying with knives: https://youtube.com/shorts/tf49AfxGw5U?si=MUeRN_E9FHfp2fIM
@stux It’s funny how when some brown people killed 2977 Americans by flying planes into buildings, the US flipped out and started wars and built new government agencies so it couldn’t happen again.
Then 10-15x that many people are killed every year by guns in the US and it’s all “thoughts and prayers, but the 2nd amendment…”
@stux Fun fact, the US (in general) will attempt to do everything else before doing what is the most practical solution to a problem. It's infuriating to say the least.
@stux thank you for that! The attempts to deflect or change or dominate the conversation over this topic only embarrasses the country. And the numbers show just the depth these politicians will go given that we have lost more people to gun violence than the country has lost in all the wars it has fought.
I understand and support the 2nd, but it’s clear we need gun control, gun education, insurance and ongoing psychological evaluation before we just sell someone a weapon.
@stux The gun lobby owns the politicians. That's why nothing gets done.
Oh but that would be totally out of line with the standard practices of this so called free country that in reality is a shithole country.
@stux And presumably not a massively different rate of serious mental health issues.
@stux stux, protecting people is not what American politicians do. They protect the wealthy only. Period.
@stux it's the same here in Canada as in Europe in this regard.
@stux by possibly amending an amendment.
