Meet The Man Who Shoots At Birds All Day To Keep Them

If migrating species land on the Berkeley Pit for more than a few hours, they get cooked from the inside out. Now, miners use a rifle, drones, and lasers to scare the birds away.

@catswhocode But wahaaat

this is seriuously a job people do :flan_laugh:

whattt daaa fackkk!

All that cash. Isn't there just a much simpler and cheaper solutions lol

@stux @catswhocode a
looks like an american solution to a simple problem 😁 (sorry Americans, love you)
aren't there sound emitting devices that cause birds to not stick around that could be used instead
that and/or... y'know... scarecrows...

@paul I know what you mean, solve everything with guns (I don't own any, just a sword) @stux

@stux I'm sure there is, like have a preventative fence or something? idk

@catswhocode Perhapd, or clean the water to start with :blobcatgiggle:

Also a huge ass mega net would do i guess! We have them also on ponds here against the birds eating the fish but rather sm0ller

Can't we deter birds with ultrasonic or magnetic fields? hmmmm

"(The Berkeley Pit) is laden with heavy metals and dangerous chemicals that leach from the rock, including copper, arsenic, cadmium, zinc, and sulfuric acid."

"(It) is a tourist attraction, with an adjacent gift shop. An admission fee is charged to go out on the viewing platform. "

Montana must be *really* short of tourist attractions... 😬

@FediThing It amazed me so much like wtf :blobcatgiggle:

This is seriously a job people do wtf! Isn't there a better and more cheaper solution one would ask

@stux Well, it's cheaper than cleaning up the mess they created.

And by clean up I don't mean pumping lime into acidic water to neutralize it.
