I have now heard from several people that they got COVID at #RSAC. Apparently, it was a semi-super-spreader event.
People don't seem to mention this as much any more, It is as if getting COVID is expected. That's not a good expectation, especially considering the longer-term damage it can wreak on the neurological and cardio systems.
So far, @drpattie and I are COVID-free. We didn't see very many people with masks -- less than 1% but we wore them.
Best wishes for recovery to those infected.
@JorgeStolfi @spaf @mwl @drpattie
Bravo! Thank you!
@spaf it probably helps that as geeks we already don't care about what other people think of us: I get pointed at by children, looked at weirdly by others, etc.
One distinct advantage is that the border guards don't ask me for ID and just move on, probably on the assumption that as a weirdo it is unlikely I carry contraband, which is actually true because the fines are beyond anything I am willing to risk.
I caught Covid once in November 2021, it was a terrible experience and have zero intention of repeating it.
@spaf
Honestly, anywhere I go anymore, I just assume half the folks have Covid and either don't know it or don't care.
And I have to make that assumption because there is no reliable data to tell me otherwise.
