We’re teaming up with Qwant to build a European search index
https://blog.ecosia.org/eusp/
> Currently, we rely on a mix of both Google and Bing libraries to provide you with answers to your searches. Starting in 2025, our new index will be added into the database pool to serve results in both the French and German language. We are starting small and in the home countries of both Qwant and Ecosia respectively.
Good to hear.
@rysiek very cool!
and then can we work on federating all the search engines...?
:D
@rysiek There's also Open Web Search which sounds interesting, though I don't know any details and how they compare or are related.
@rysiek Any progress update? Seeing as this article is 3 months old.
@thijsje o idea, I also just saw it, so I shared it
@voorstad as I don't work for Ecosia, I am not the best target of that message. You might want to consider pinging Ecosia directly.
@voorstad I suspect they are simply on social where there are more users. It's a niche search engine, and promoting yourself on a niche platform would be silly from a marketing point of view. As far as I can see, Ecosia also uses Amazon's servers. So it's not as European as we'd like it to be.
@rysiek Yay! This is great news.
I've been using Ecosia & Qwant since last year.
