A random thought I had today while reading a random interview with @alxd:
"Burnout" seems to me a pretty good term for the climate catastrophe caused by burning of fossil fuels.
I have to ponder it more. There's something there to build a narrative around. 
“burnout” is a pretty solidly established psychological term at this point that it would be more appropriate to use it for people’s reactions to climate catastrophe rather than any single aspect of the catastrophe
