Per capita spend on #sewerage systems by 1874. Eton out on its own on its spend. Well-to-do #bottoms need looking after. Reflected also in the fact that the two places with highest ratio of #WCs to bottoms were Royal Tunbridge Wells (1:2.8 bottoms) and Richmond, Surrey (1:3.8 bottoms). Whereas in Dudley in the Black Country the stats were 1 WC to 437.8 bottoms! Big spenders spending their pennies. #Sewage #EnvHist #Maps #Victorian #Town #Sanitation #Class #Divide
@rlcj nothing in York? Thought that appeared on your previous map?
@markno It did. But while we have population figures we don’t have data on money spent on sewerage before 1874 so can’t calculate the per capita figure. If interested, population in 1876 43,796; WCs 3,000: this one WC to 14.6 bottoms. Not bad. But prepare to form an orderly queue! Midden system still being used.
