Is it weird that I use Whatsapp as a scratchpad for myself? I send notes to myself on desktop and on mobile especially if I need a cross-platform copy/paste solution.

@ppatel I'm constantly in my own list of top chats when sharing stuff via WhatsApp for this reason. Sending links to myself is particularly useful.

@jscholes That's one of the things I do. I also use it for transfering strings of text that I don't want to type again on the mobile device.

@jscholes @ppatel I don't even bother with top chats for myself, I pinned my own conversation to the top, saves even hunting for it.

@FreakyFwoof @jscholes Now that's a brilliant idea. *Shakes head.* Why didn't I think of that?

@ppatel @jscholes I have two other conversations pinned. The other two are my wife, and our family group with the kids in as well. Easy to coordinate school things or send random links to the family that might be interesting or whatever. works well.

@FreakyFwoof @ppatel @jscholes I do this so much that I eventually said screw it and wrote a little app which is basically just a single person messenger for myself. And now I use that instead of Matrix and WhatsApp which is what I was using before. So this seems to be quite common which is surprising to me.

@talon @FreakyFwoof @ppatel @jscholes I have a note in Simplenote I titled iOS Windows clipboard that I use for this.

@KaraLG84 @FreakyFwoof @ppatel @jscholes to be fair I do this for more than just sharing content between devices. I'm weird enough that this kind of messenger style note taking works really well for me for sorting out thoughts in my head. Usually it goes brain -> messenger -> somewhere it fits better if it needs to like a featherwiki, a bunch of markdown files, code, or calendar. So basically it is my dumping ground for literally any thought I think I might need to write down at all. Then I sort it all out later if I need to, otherwise I just archive it and keep it around if I need to search for something later on.

@talon @FreakyFwoof @ppatel @jscholes Makes sense.
I think if I used WhatsApp for that it would literally be the only thing I'd use it for right now, which is quite sad.

@KaraLG84 @FreakyFwoof @ppatel @jscholes I was using matrix for this until my matrix server died. So I decided since I also wanted things like export to markdown and run tasks in the background, I'd just make something for myself. I use whatsapp all the time and it's already pretty cluttered so I felt like if I used it for note taking I'd just get confused. Plus I think I can only have one chat with myself right? Or can you create groups with only one user in it?

@talon @KaraLG84 @ppatel @jscholes You can only have one chat with yourself afaik.
I have WhatsApp on iOS, Android, PC and Mac, so wherever I send myself a thing, I can pick it up from wherever.
I've used it to send over 2FA recovery codes for example, when I couldn't think of an easier way of getting them from one device to another, then deleting the message once saved, testing voice quality if I get a new mic or set of headphones etc, so many reasons.
Passing youtube links between platforms for another.

@FreakyFwoof @talon @KaraLG84 @ppatel @jscholes Yeah, you have simular usecases like me. Also you can actually, I used to do that before you were able to send chats with yourself by just creating a group with a friend and then removing the friend. So now you have a group with only you as a member.

@talon @FreakyFwoof @ppatel @jscholes Yeah, I also note Things for myself in a Message to myself.

@ppatel If it's weird, then I also do weird stuff.
