NOELREPORTS 🇪🇺 🇺🇦

🇪🇺 Hungary is out, the EU moves forward. European leaders no longer wait for Orbán’s approval on Ukraine. The latest EU statement will be issued by 26 nations—Hungary isolated. Diplomats say if Orbán wants to go it alone, no one will stop him.

POLITICO · Europe’s new unanimity: Orbán doesn’t need to agreeBy Gabriel Gavin

@noelreports Heartening to see that the EU has Trump's number

> “There are U.S.-Russia talks and U.S.-Ukraine talks, but these are not seen as a peace negotiation,” another senior EU official told POLITICO. However, the official added, “the EU welcomes U.S. efforts” to try and cement a ceasefire, but will continue to provide material support to Ukraine regardless.

@noelreports @lisamelton

«Ultimately though, tough wording threatening additional sanctions on Russian energy and trade goods might mean little, given actually implementing it at an EU level still does require unanimity — and Hungary has time and time again blocked proposals to tighten the remaining loopholes.»

@noelreports

sad but true

" "Orbán chose isolation and a path of illiberal democracy against the obvious interest of the EU and, in fact, Hungary. "

Perhaps this is also a sign for the citizens of Hungary that their government is on the wrong track

@noelreports The so called #EU is a travesty. Why don’t they just chuck Hungary out? They claim to be #Europe. #EU is not even half of Europe.

@arosano

Your post is a travesty, proving you have no clue about anything EU-related.

Welcome to my blocklist, failure.

60% but only if you count the steppe horde as Europeans.

Hungary cannot be expelled by definition. They have to go yourself.

@arosano @noelreports

  1. The #EU does not claim to be #Europe, they claim to be the European Union which is clearly a difference.
  2. The EU-Rules does not contain a way to throw out a country, only the country itself can decide to leave. {Unlike, for example, as the Council of Europe, which has thrown out russia}
    This may be seen as a mistake - afterwards anyone knows better - but it may also be seen as an assurance that a a individual little country is not susceptible to blackmail if it's views differ.

But yes, the case of Hungary shows that the EU needs to make changes to its rules in order to deal effectively with traitors to the system.

@player @noelreports 1. All politicians in all member states invariably say #Europe when they refer to the #eu.
2. Any organization whose bylaws allow one member to stall proceedings needs to revise its rules.

There is Article 7. However, certain members seem to be preferring to form coalitions in order to workaround/exclude Orban. It seems to be working.
