We may get a Steam Controller 2, plus fun updates coming to Steam Deck https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2022/12/we-may-get-a-steam-controller-2-plus-fun-updates-coming-to-steam-deck/ #SteamDeck #SteamController #Gaming
@gamingonlinux i plan to buy a controller one day, but idk which one: ps or xbox.
now steam controller 2 will be maybe released in future
was steam controller 1 good?
@muznyo @gamingonlinux it was a niche concept - make a controller that can work with pc games - but it did its job very well and the lessons learned got carried on into the steam deck. I think a version 2 would be great
@Grapevine @gamingonlinux and its d-pad? i find it odd compared to xbox or ps, how did it feel like?
@muznyo @gamingonlinux oh the dpad on the steam controller was terrible lol. they overlapped the functionality with one of the touchpads, a mistake they didn't make twice
@Grapevine @gamingonlinux i hope they will address it in next version
@muznyo
@Grapevine @gamingonlinux it didn't have so much of a dpad or right joystick, it had touchpads instead, personally that was why I never got one, if it had all the inputs of a Steamdeck though I would get it for sure
@RassilonianLegate @muznyo @gamingonlinux I think they just overestimated how multifaceted touchpads are the first time around. they really nailed it with the deck though
@muznyo @gamingonlinux The original steam controller was good, but it was unique. It wasn't the best drop in replacement for an Xbox controller in my opinion. The ergonomics were a little weird for that. The haptic track pads were awesome though. They made for comfortable and intuitive couch gaming for things that weren't really designed for controllers. It was also kind of fun to just control a PC with a controller and it not feel weird.
@muznyo Depends on who you ask. I think I'm one of the rare few to really enjoy using them (I own two).
My only issue is the lack of a right stick. The trackpads are very good and are able to emulate one in some way, but they can't exactly replace the feeling of a physical stick.
Still, I played Sekiro with it, so I'd say it's good enough. :]
@muznyo @gamingonlinux I have two of them and they feel great in your hands. My only issue was the dual trackpads and no second analog stick. It made some games really hard to play. That being said, overall it was a pretty great controller.
@muznyo here is a video comparing game controllers from Gardiner "The Linux Gamer" Bryant, who is also a controller nerd

i'm a pc (linux) gamer and bought a used ps4 controller a year ago. it's works perfectly with cable, in steam, but i didn't get it to work over bluetooth
it's really great for some games (non-fps) to use a controller and lean back. it's a very different feel, more comfortable and chilled
totally recommend to try it out!
@muznyo i looked into it again and found out, i just need bluez with plugin for ps4 controller over bluetooth on #nixos. now it works
