As we reel from more mass shootings - don't forget how the right wingers on this stolen and illegitimate plays a key role in enabling gun violence. As noted by @paulwaldman in this 🌲 piece while "only occasionally do cases involving gun laws come before the court, the conservative majority’s hostility to gun regulations — both in the past and likely in the future — plays a key role in shaping the decision-making of legislators and activists." washingtonpost.com/opinions/20

The Washington PostHow the Supreme Court limits our national debate — and action — on gun violenceBy Paul Waldman
Murshed Zaheed

Ds dropped the ball last yr as the Rs were on the defensive after a string of deadly shootings. W control of Cong/WH, Ds had the chance to fight for bills that would ban assault weapons or deploy universal background checks. Their leadership decided not to fight capitulating to moderate Rs & settle for a milquetoast legislation.

CA can have tougher gun laws but can’t bc of a right wing SCOTUS. When will Ds truly push 4 big, structural reforms instead of just tweeting about it? This is hapless.

@murshedz Manchin would have never agreed to an AWB. The original bill was torn to shreds and we had to settle for crumbs. Trying to make it bipartisan doomed us from the start.

@murshedz they wouldn't even let us raise the fucking legal age from 18 to 21. The same people who want to ban 18 year olds from voting.

@murshedz
Dems did fight for an assault weapons ban. Guess what? The senate needed 60 votes to get it, and THE GOP WOULDNT AGREE. And Dems did actually pass gun reform legislation.

It’s close to insanity to blame Dems for lax gun laws.
