“Girls Just Want to Have Fun” (1985) 2/4 - It is ironic that Cyndi Lauper’s song which inspired the film never makes a proper appearance in it (Lauper was against this), because in so many ways #HelenHunt and #SarahJessicaParker’s onscreen friendship embodies its essence. The two clearly have fun, and as Parker herself has commented, their friendship doesn’t fall victim to a competitive toxicity, which would have been the lazy writing solution, especially in a film about a dance contest.
