Still building out my profile and follows, but I do know that I like seeing these in my feed 😀
Artillery games were a popular multiplayer genre in #DOSGaming starting in the early 80s. What are your favorites?
Scorched Earth (Wendell Hicken, 1991)
QBasic Gorillas (Microsoft Corporation, 1991)
Worms (Team17 Software/Ocean Software, 1995)
The Castle (Sami Tammilehto)
Wrote a full length note of my recent findings, but the android app glitched when I tried to break it into two parts. I'll just post the conclusion paragraph since it's still in my clipboard and I might rewire the rest if if feel like the explanations could be helpful for others learning and adjusting from other social apps.
As someone #newtothis I have 2 decisions to navigate: what fediverse applications best suit the content I will contribute and present the kind of 'feed' experience I'm looking for; and next, which instance offers a good fit between content moderation policy and community profile.
On Earth Day, a paper I co-authored was released on Nature Astronomy: "The Case for Space Environmentalism" https://www.nature.com/articles/s41550-022-01655-6

#2613 Bad Map Projection: Madagascator
The projection's north pole is in a small lake on the island of Mahé in the Seychelles, which is off the top of the map and larger than the rest of the Earth's land area combined.

Okay, it's time to tell new users a secret about Mastodon.
Mastodon is (whispers) part of a much bigger network 😮
Mastodon servers use an open standard called ActivityPub to talk to each other. That's how you interact with people on other Mastodon servers.
But, dozens of other federated networks also use ActivityPub, so (this is the good bit!) you can follow people on these other networks from your Mastodon account!
Together, Mastodon and these other services form... The Fediverse
(whispers) Click on the link...
#newtothis I cannot understand the #fediverse dynamics between mastodon, my instance, and other apps/platforms like #PeerTube #misskey #pleroma #Friendica. I thought the fediverse/activitypub meant that I did not have to sign up with all of those separately, but that accounts could freely interact with all of them directly.
Can any veterans share resources/wisdom to help me navigate here?
I have found https://botsin.space/explore and this will certainly make my experience more interesting.
Most of these services connect with each other! For example, you can follow me also on:
That's called the #Fediverse or Federated Universe
