@bobdobberson From an end-user’s perspective Matrix and XMPP are very similar. Try both. Use what ever works for you.

From a developer’s perspective XMPP is an actual open standard where multiple vendors come together for collaboration and healthy competition to continuously improve the specification.

Matrix on the other hand is mostly controlled by one company and as a vendor you have to pay up to $500k/year to get a meaningful say in how the spec gets developed¹.
