Speaking as a US citizen, Canada buying the F-35 is one of the most inexplicable things I've ever seen. The reason the US bought F-35s was as a workfare project for Lockheed. But Canada, *you* have no incentive to stimulate the Texas economy by buying a product that doesn't work. I don't care if Justin already paid for some of them. Just drop it and walk away. It will cost you more to maintain the useless things than it will to just buy something else.

CBC · Canada reconsidering F-35 purchase amid tensions with Washington, says ministerBy Murray Brewster

Like never mind that they create dependence on a country which is a potential near-term enemy. Never mind that the US has demonstrated, in Ukraine, if it decides you're no longer an ally it will potentially lock you out of software on military equipment you bought from them. Never mind that you're looking at having to buy a entirely separate set of helicopters to rescue the F35s when they stop working because your country's too far north ( ottawacitizen.com/public-servi )

*You don't want these planes*

Ottawa Citizen · Canada to buy new military helicopters to respond to potential F-35 crashes in the ArcticBy David Pugliese, Ottawa Citizen

CORRECTION: An earlier version of the above posts implied that the F-35 was a pork barrel project for the state of Washington. On closer investigation, it appears to actually be a pork barrel project for the state of Texas. I apologize for the error.

Lockheed also appears to employ about 1,000 Canadians. However, a single F35 costs canada $216 million dollars not counting maintenance. So I propose Canada buy one fewer plane and directly employ 1,000 Canadians at $216,000 a year to sit in a room

I understand the Gripen and the Rafale would also come with local production, and transfer technology too. Thats a step up on Lockheed/

Lockheed is under fascist control, invader control.

Gripen's a nice build, they are using it to test low earth orbit insertion.

@kevinrns @mcc

I would not want to be a stockholder in Lockheed Martin right now. The felon-in-chief down there seems to have unintentionally cut the possible market for the F-35 to just the USA practically overnight. It's probably a really good day to be a Saab stock owner.

Unless he plans to allow sales to Russia and North Korea. I wouldn't put it past him, but the leaders of those countries aren't stupid enough to buy it.
