@atpfm In a recent discussion about USB-C, one of you mentioned that in the next 10 years, the USB-C port will be the limiter in phone thickness. Maybe this was in jest, but it sounded serious. Is there any reason to actually think that? Apple has shown no desire, or at least no ability, to shrink thickness in the past 10 years, and seem to be content at between 7-8mm for the body of the phone (image courtesy of@rjj@mastodon.social from his Twitter last year) 1/3

@atpfm The popular assumption has always seemed to be “eventually our phones will be as thin as credit cards”. But, is that based on anything other than sci-fi depictions of the future? Has anyone actually demonstrated R&D for future-tech where battery, chips, hardware (tapitic engine, other ports and switches), screen, and not to mention camera, fit in a package of 4mm or less, much less 2-3mm? 2/3

@atpfm I feel like in discussions of future phones, we often veer too far into what we think "must" be possible in the future just because of advances we've made in the past, without considering what really are bound to be physical and practical limitations at some point. 3/3
