We noticed two peregrine falcons dive-bombing a gull in the lake. At first, we thought the gull was injured, but it turned out the gull was protecting its meal. After a closer look, we determined that the gull was eating a green-winged teal. We think one of the peregrines had killed it, and the gull actually stole it. I was a little surprised to see the peregrine back off, but it watched and waited while a couple of gulls ate their fill, and the peregrine took what was left.
@jbeim Speaking from experience, those gulls are vicious. If I was a falcon, I’d back off too.
@TammyGentzel Yes, I agree. Those herring gulls are huge.
