More fun in the . I'm having a blast. The goal of this hike was , via , and the magnificent towers.
Downside of all this beauty is that a lot of people had the same idea, leading to busy trails (see last image).

Approaching Rifugio Preuss. Perched on a rock, viewed from below.
Looking back at Rifugio Re Alberto 1, with the Vajolet towers behind it. The rifugio is sided by ragged mountain peaks; a hiking path crosses the scree slope at the bottom of one side of the peaks.
Rifugio Santner, at 2734m altitude. A metal triangular prism lying on its side with a terrace overlooking the chasm in front of it. A cloud rises up the cliff side.
Lots of hikers on the trail down from Rifugio Alberto 1 to Rifugio Vajolet, visible down in the distance. A traffic jam composed of hikers.

Rifugio Re Alberto 1 is named after the third Belgian King 'Albert I', who was an avid mountaineer. He did a lot of first ascents in this area, together with his local guide Tita Piaz, nicknamed 'devil of the Dolomites'.
Tita bought the former shelter at this place and built the refuge.
Albert I would later die in a accident in Belgium.

Ives

The Passo Santner hut was recently built and replaces an older, more ramshackle building at the same spot. It looks great, but the old hut had a lot more character, and an outhouse with the greatest view I've ever seen from a toilet :^).
I understand there's also a bit of controversy around the new hut, related to the sale of the land (part of a UN heritage site); but I'm not fully familiar with the details.
