@feditips There is nothing wrong with non-public talks. The way the fediverse is setup even hostile actions make the creation of a new mainline federation possible. But I really do not see that happening.

FediTips has moved!

@assegaia

The Fediverse is supposed to be an open place with transparency about its development and funding. That's why so many people give time and money to it freely.

NDAs are the opposite of transparent, they legally tie the hands of people who sign them and in this case it's purely for the benefit of Meta/Facebook.

@feditips

NDAs in the Fediverse really seem something interesting...

It seems like something suicidal...

@assegaia

@feditips Transparency in development, its direction and funding is not in danger. NDAs are everywhere, from nefarious reasons to implicit agreements in social circumstances. At no point we are entitled to know about every single talk the developers hold.

Total exclusion of NDAs for talks would foster a toxic environment, because none could take place with commercial providers.

Contracts with Meta under NDA? That would be a problem.

@assegaia @feditips yeah? I still want to know every mf’ing one of them who signed.

@feditips@mstdn.social @assegaia@mastodon.online The worst an NDA can do is restrict the people who signed it from using the knowledge they gained under the NDA in ways not allowed by the NDA. I really think it won't be possible to get enough people to sign NDAs that it could seriously impact the development of all the Fediverse software out there.

An NDA can't break the current ActivityPub standard and prevent software currently using it. The WORST that could happen is anyone signing the NDA could be prevented from working on open source again, and anyone stupid enough to sign that kind of agreement shouldn't be working on Fediverse software.
