BookWyrm is a federated open social reading platform, and is the Fediverse's alternative to Amazon's GoodReads.

There's more info about BookWyrm at joinbookwyrm.com and there's a list of servers you can join at joinbookwyrm.com/instances

You can follow the project's account at @bookwyrm, and BookWyrm accounts can be followed from Mastodon etc, for example @mouse is the lead developer's BookWyrm account.

You can import your book data into BookWyrm from GoodReads, LibraryThing, StoryGraph, OpenLibrary and Calibre.

To import data, first export it from the other service as a CSV file, then log into your BookWyrm account, go to Settings > Import, select the type of data and then browse to the CSV file you had exported from the other service. Select the correct privacy setting, then click "import".

I think BookWyrm gets its data from a collaboration with @inventaire and WikiData.

Bear in mind it's a platform about books rather than containing the books themselves. The idea is to keep track of your own library, share reviews, see recommendations etc.

@storydragon @feditips @bookwyrm @mouse Ooo, sounds great i will definitely take a look and join it on Saturday.

@Gloucester_Lad @feditips @bookwyrm @mouse In what sense? It is a tool to keep track of the books you have read, not a provider.
But maybe you are asking what books are in the registry?

@feditips @bookwyrm @mouse
I thought about getting a bookwyrm account, but in my LibraryThing I have about 1.600 books registered as I'm using it for keeping track of the books we own. I don't think thats the usecase bookwyrm is aiming for.

@shadowsword @bookwyrm @mouse

You might want to check out @inventaire as that's mainly about cataloguing book collections and organising personal or private libraries?

I think they were the first ones to work on the catalogue which BookWyrm now uses.

@feditips @bookwyrm @mouse fucking amazing! The fediverse doesn't stop surprising me! Y'all rock!

@feditips @bookwyrm @mouse this looks cool, I must try it. Goodreads gives me the creeps

@feditips @bookwyrm @mouse Not receiving confirmation codes after several tries and checking my spam. Any #Help?

@floribundum @bookwyrm @mouse

It should work, might be worth sending an email to the admin of the server you signed up on?

The contact address is at the bottom left corner of the server's website.

@floribundum

If it still doesn't work, try signing up on a different server. They're all run by different people, so some may be better maintained than others.

@feditips @bookwyrm @mouse Did not know that Goodreads is a subsidiary of Amazon...

Just registered with BookWyrm and will stick to it. Bring the dark mode and mobile app and I'm all happy :)

The only flaw I see that Goodreads automatically matches the title with the "global" edition of the book and BookWyrm will import my books as translated, hence not matching them with the originals... Might be something to work on in the future though!

@arkd@101010.pl there are a lot of features still in progress, but we do have dark mode! You can select it from your user settings
