If you have an independently hosted WordPress blog, you can turn it into a Fediverse server by installing the WordPress ActivityPub plugin. This means people can follow your blog from Mastodon etc.

Here's how to do it:

1. Go to your WordPress dashboard's Plugins section, click "add new" and search for "ActivityPub" . Click "install now" on the plugin, and when it has finished installing, click "activate".

2. On the WordPress dashboard, go to the "Users" section. Click on your username and scroll to the bottom to find your Fediverse address. Share this address with whoever wants to follow your blog on Mastodon etc.

3. To alter the plugin's settings, on your WordPress dashboard go to Settings > ActivityPub

If you want to switch off or remove the plugin, go to "plugins", then "deactivate" or "delete".

NOTE: This plugin only works with independently hosted WordPress sites. It doesn't work with free accounts on WordPress.com.

p.s. If you use the WordPress ActivityPub plugin, it's a really good idea to donate to @pfefferle as they are the one who put the hard work in to create and maintain it.

(Thank you for pointing this out @mikka!)

@feditips das Plugin ist momentan noch nicht mit WP 6 getestet.

@feditips @pfefferle

I have set it up atm, but can't connect to my @polente.de

Also one issue, it uses the account name, and I don't want to share that. Would be better to have the possibility to swap that.

@polent @feditips @pfefferle make sure your WP username is one word without underscores etc. Also i find that activitypub plugin doesn't work if you also use automate posting to mastodon plugin...

@abid @feditips @pfefferle

That could be it, but then I need to change too much. Sad :-)

@polent @feditips I told @pfefferle about this but looks like there is no updates on plugin for some time. Also if really need you can transfer all posts from one user to another in couple of clicks etc... If you need some help PM me

@abid @feditips @pfefferle no worries. I know my instance. I just don't want to spoil the username. It should use the nickname.

@pfefferle ? Maye worth to add a Pull Request to his GitHub :-)

@polent @abid @feditips you can install the webfinger plugin for WordPress which has a bit more detailed features. The plugin also supports the user_nicename if that helps?

@polent @abid @feditips the ActivityPub has only a very limited WebFinger support, because I wanted to have a full featured plugin, but I always recommend to use the WebFinger plugin in addition. Maybe I should mention this somewhere on the settings page.

@pfefferle @polent @abid

Ah, interesting! Is there any chance of combining them into one plugin, or does that cause problems?

@feditips @polent @abid WebFinger is an extra Plugin, because it is not only supported by ActivityPub.

@pfefferle @polent @abid

Ah ok! Well then yeah, mentioning that people should install it too might help :)

@abid @polent @pfefferle @feditips
oh, interesting! I have both installed, and only the ActivityPub plugin works, Mastodon Autopost does nothing. WP 6.0.

@pfefferle @polent

Wooo! 🥳

By the way, it still says "not tested with 6.0" on the plugins menu, is there any way to get that updated?

@feditips @pfefferle @polent Absolutely! Have 2 blogs activated this way and there are no problems. Thx again Matthias for this plugin!

@pfefferle @feditips @polent yes it works same as on older versions, but problem is same as before if there is one or two interference i mentioned above

@polent @feditips Ich hätte einen speziellen Weiterentwicklungswunsch. Im Moment habe ich mit dem Plugin einen Account, den ich nicht bearbeiten kann. Also einmal etwas falsch gepostet bleibt es.
Daher wäre entweder Bearbeitungsmöglichkeit oder Verknüpfung mit bestehenden Profil praktisch … 🙏😊

@polent
I've been using it without issue for several months. Arsrobotics.org and wp.arsrobotics.org both have it enabled.
@feditips

@feditips Please be sure to send a few cents to the creator of this plugin. ActivityPub is not his only contribution to what the Fediverse (unlike Mastodon) really is and is designed for.

He's also actively developing IndieWeb plugins and more.
