The Fediverse is more than just Mastodon!

PixelFed uses the same federation protocol as Mastodon, which means Mastodon users can follow people on PixelFed and vice versa. You can try following a PixelFed account right now such as @Iancylkowski or @JoseMel or @connyduck
You can use PixelFed through a web browser, and there are also free open Android apps like @PixelDroid and FediLab (@apps).
If you love books, the best part of the Fediverse is probably @bookwyrm, a GoodReads-style social reading network.

Just like the rest of the Fediverse, PeerTube uses ActivityPub protocols, so you can follow and interact with PeerTube from Mastodon etc.
For example, you could follow @craftykat or @chriswere@share.tube or @mrfunkedude and interact with their videos entirely from within Mastodon.

If you would like a more Facebook-style interface on the Fediverse, maybe you should try Friendica:
As it uses the ActivityPub protocol, you can follow and interact with accounts on Mastodon etc from Friendica, and vice versa.
You can also follow RSS feeds as if they were Fediverse accounts, and when an RSS item is published on that feed it will appear in your timeline as if it's a Fediverse post.
You can write very long posts on Friendica, you don't have to worry about character limits.
You can use Friendica accounts through the FediLab app, available on @fdroidorg@mastodon.technology and Google Play.

If you just want to post long text articles on the Fediverse, a good option is @writefreely which has an official website at:
It features a minimalist interface to avoid distracting from the text itself, and is sort of like a Fediverse alternative to Medium.
Because it's part of the Fediverse, you can follow WriteFreely accounts from Mastodon etc.

If you have a blog powered by WordPress, you can connect it to the Fediverse so that people on Mastodon etc can follow your blog, comment on posts and share them.
You will need to install a free open source plugin called ActivityPub For WordPress:

Note that WordPress the platform is different from wordpress.com the hosting site. Wordpress.com does not allow installation of this kind of plugin (unless you pay an expensive fee).
But you don't need to use wordpress.com to use WordPress! Because WordPress is free open source software, much every hosting provider in the world offers a WordPress site for a few dollars a month, and this kind of indpendently hosted WordPress is what the plugin will work on.

Because Funkwhale is part of the Fediverse, you can follow its accounts from Mastodon etc. For example, the account @bytebitmusic_chiptunes is on Funkwhale.

If you just want to try it out, there's a test site at https://demo.mobilizon.org which is reset every 24 hours.
You can follow Mobilizon accounts from Mastodon etc. For example, @radio27 is a Mobilizon account that recommends psychedelic rock concerts in Berlin.
Alternatively, Mobilizon accounts can also be followed through RSS/Atom or ICS/WebCal if preferred.
@feditips I just set this up (activitypub on wp), didn't work at first, but got it working after getting my host to add some whitelist rules in mod_security (incase anyone has issues). I could follow but the follow wasn't being accepted by my wp install.
My only issue now is that images don't come across, which means following from pixelfed doesn't work. Text posts fine to my mastodon profile. But no images.
