Got asked what Republicans want.
They've allied themselves with Putin. Some from blackmail -- it's not an accident they're such trashy people, they've been selected for their vulnerability to being controlled.
Others because they hope that, after they and Putin get what they want, they'll be able to do in America what he's done in Russia. He's the richest man in the world? America's dictator will be richer.
@fatsam And some because they fear losing a primary.
@gpk there's some of that, but the truth is politicians have always been afraid of primaries. They didn't use to betray their country over it.
@fatsam I have just been reading McKay Coppins' interview of Mitt Romney in The Atlantic (Nov 2023, p. 64), and Romney makes it clear that many Senators are physically afraid of their constituents.
This is in addition to the cynical hypocrites who are only concerned about winning the next election, and the true-believers / conspiracy-theorists.
Oddly, I can't find a link to the article.
@fatsam Everything I've seen about Trump in particular fits; it's long seemed to me like he's only in it to line his own pockets, even down to the constantly betraying his own people. "Cerebus doesn't love you, Cerebus just wants your money." I don't know that all Republicans were always like that as well, but they certainly are now.
