@fatsam Perfect....
@fatsam this is only half true
they can afford the death machines and all those other things they just choose not to
@fatsam Life would be a hell of a lot better, if we could just all get along. Hell, we'd probably be drinking cappuccinos on Mars by now, if it wasn't for that one asshole who had to piss in the punch bowl.
@fatsam "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. ... Is there no other way the world may live?" - Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953)
@wesdym I've quoted that a few times, over the years.
@fatsam The only thing I would add in big letters is Lockheed Martin and Boeing gifts.
@fatsam Flying an F18-E/F for two hours would put my students through a 4-year degree in AI development.
I'm not sure we need either, but it's worth thinking about.
@fatsam reminds me of a 1960's bumper sticker about fighter jets and schools:
@fatsam "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."
- Dwight D Eisenhower
@fatsam In Australia we would use a nuclear submarine as the expensive weapon and apply similar “costs”.
The current total cost of the F-35 program, as of 2017, is around $400,000,000,000 (Four Hundred Billion USD), and is expected to have a lifetime cost of around $1,500,000,000,000 (One and a Half Trillion USD). This jet, beyond being wholly unnecessary, is considered by the military itself to be a failure.
So yeah, we wasted a fuck ton of money just to get a bigger imperial dick.
@fatsam MAYDAY MAYDAY THE ENEMY SHOT OUT MY WELFARE CUTS
@fatsam When the pilot needs to reduce airspeed, they reduce superfund cleanup, lower the SEC funding, and cut EPA budget.
@fatsam Pretty much.
@fatsam in Australia that nose rod is used to detect lifesigns of a policy to make dentistry affordable. Extreme prejudice models are very popular these days.
