Hey, what’s up?
Just realized #introduction is overdue.
I’m Erik, and I use he/him pronouns.
I’m 50 something years old and live with my spouse, two teenage kids, two cats, and two dogs. My oldest child is away at college as a #botany major.
For the last 13 years I’ve biked for transportation. I follow the #BikeTooter and #BikeNite tags.
I make art, mostly #figuredrawing and #printmaking
I build software in the film industry.
I play in a biweekly tabletop role playing game.
Part of the reason I’m so adamant about safe streets and local street speeding.
This crushed bollard does little to save any kids. It’s an unenforceable reminder to slow down around a kid unfriendly intersection.
It’s also right next to a barricade to indicate this is a slow street.
Drivers wont slow down and be careful unless you force the behavior with road and crossing design.

"I plead everyone to share the reality about Journalists in order to spread awareness about the real plans of the Israeli occupation to target journalists in order to impose a media blackout. Spread the hashtag and talk about us!”

#ProtectTheJournalists
Being put on a hit list for being a journalist is not great

In October, the Israeli military placed Hossam and five other Palestinian journalists on a hit list. At the time, he said it felt like he was “hunted.” He called on people to speak out using the hashtag #ProtectTheJournalists: “

Is it me or has autocorrect on iPhone become completely unreliable?
I’ll type entire sentences and words will flip and phrases split into nonsensical words
I love transit, and you should double down and put more money into it.
Am pretty sure the Facebook bulk comment and post delete page I got served yesterday was missing the bulk feature. That is, you would have to click each individual post or reaction to undo it.
Hoping I just found the wrong page because if not it’s account delete time a little early.
Dang ep 7 of Pixar’s Win or Lose goes so hard. Even with the trans erasure edits, all the rest of it is right out there in the open, and in context is just heart breaking. Grandma’s support, Kai’s trashing the old photos of herself, etc etc
This is the first time I’ve seen it (didn’t see it without the trans erasure) so I have no comparison, but this message would have been so extra.
Ugh the service center video does everything except show you the keyboard disassembly ffs
I’m thinking rate limited somewhere.
Trying this mostly because my spouse and some close friends are on bsky and maybe I can lure them over here with my shadow presence
Looks like bsky bridge is either backed up or has a limit to story-like thread reply depth.
Also my instance’s text limit is way more generous than the bridge / bsky.
And you can hear some of his stories with these grown men who are also his fans.
There might be a YouTube of this
Anyways if you made it this far, you can buy the book from him directly.
His family is stuffing envelopes.
https://jamesgurney.com/products/the-artists-guide-to-sketching
Practical advice on plein air painting and dealing with your kit and spectators. Whether to sit or stand. What friendly places and people are. Ideas for knocking on doors.
And drawing methods.
What’s inside this book anyways?
Glossy thick color photo pages of different drawings. Photos of technique practices. Frameworks for starting and improving a sketch as you go.
From a survivor and graduate of cal and art center. A master of markers and gouache painting. Who can draw from life and add his own fantastical fantasy stuff.
And his talk was so good. He went though working on backgrounds for a rotoscoped animated film ? Fire and Ice ? And you can hear a different version of that story on the Bancroft Brother’s pod.
Really glad I got to meet and be inspired by this old time legend of illustration, buy his book, meet his spouse and friend, and reconsider my relationship to my practice.
Anyways smash cut to work and he and his wife and Kinkade’s widow are at a table selling the new book and his art is up on easels all around.
I just made the cutoff to get a signed book before his talk, but the new book hadn’t arrived yet.
I got an autograph in my sketchbook.
