Asterix

Had a discussion with my partner yesterday on the best way to organize the of our child (6YO) 😂 :lego_angle: Set-based? Form-/color-based? A hybrid model?

She wants to keep the LEGO sets together, enabling our kid to rebuild them easily. I concur, but also want to stimulate creativity, allowing our kid to combine pieces from different sets (wheels, flowers, flat plates, rotating stuff) with generic building blocks.

So I'm looking for , storage options and !

@asterix I would definitely go for form based. Use wide/low containers with removable lids (flat ones with a rim, that you could use as a tray). (High containers make for harder finding specific pieces)
My system is to put similar blocks in the same container, until it gets too full, then get a new container and split them in 2 more or less equal size (amount) types.
Also, have a container for unsorted, so you can clear away easily and sort at a more suitable time

@LegoPink Great advice, especially the low containers and the separate one for "no time right now" 😉👍 Thanks!

@asterix as a kid, my Legos were stored mixed up in a single large tub. Worked well enough for me 🤷‍♂️

@ham_bitious Same here. I had an empty laundry powder box filled with basic blocks 😉. There was no need for advanced sorting and categorization methodologies as I had just one (spaceship) set 🚀.
