What is "a11y" or "web a11y"?
It's a number-based abbreviation (or numeronym) for the word "accessibility."
The number 11 is used because there are 11 letters between the "a" and "y".
Two other numeronyms maybe you've heard of: i18n for internationalization, o11y for observability.
The "descript" watermark at the bottom right is there because I use that tool to caption my videos and do not pay for a subscription.

I have been humbly reminded that not everyone knows what "a11y" is. Um, that comes from my video yesterday where the tool name had "a11y" in it. So let's talk about it real quick. This is a screenshot from my own website because I don't want to write this over and over again.

So a11y is something called a numeronym, which is a number-based word. And for "a11y" it has three parts. You have the first letter of the word, A, and then there are 11 letters up until the Y. So there's 11 letters between the A and the Y in "accessibility." And this is just something that helps shorten it because it's a really long word. Um, some other examples include internationalization, which is i18n and observability, which is o11y. Um, that's it!
