In case you missed it, the RBI had secretly tried to pass a law where KYC had to include the religion of the account holder.

It was a notification to allow naturalised immigrants to open Acccounts. Not for re-categorisation. That said, most forms for bank accounts anyway include a religious declaration; most ppl fill it.
