Decision of Supreme Court on review petition filed by convict Akshay Kumar Singh coming up from Justices R Banumathi, Ashok Bhushan and AS Bopanna.

Details from the hearing 👇

Judges have assembled.

Justice Banumathi reads out decision:

Petitioner has again sought to assail the facts and findings, which cannot be permitted.
Grounds raised were same raised in previous appeals and review petitions.

Arguments raised have been made previously in Supreme Court, had also been looked at during consideration of aggravating and mitigating circumstances.

No grounds for review. Review petition dismissed.

AP Singh asks for three weeks to be able to file Akshay Singh's mercy petition before the President of India.

Cites Shatrughan Singh on how this is a right of a convict who has been given death sentence.

SG Tushar Mehta says time prescribed for this is 1 week.

Mehta says that as this is the only relief being sought, there's no problem if he takes time according to law.

Bench doesn't pass an order, says Singh can avail of time provided in law to file his mercy petition.

AP Singh tells that curative petitions for other accused are being filled, will also file for Akshay Singh.

Review Petition

[NOTE: Though convict's lawyer didn't mention this during the discussion with the bench and the SG, even when SH reiterated that only remedy being sought by AP Singh was a mercy petition, this should not affect Akshay Singh's right to file a curative petition under the law.]
