Mozilla Foundation lays off 30% staff, drops advocacy division https://tcrn.ch/3Ch6Zk4
@TechCrunch "reorganizing teams to increase agility and impact as we accelerate our work"
imagine firing a third of your workers and keeping the hollow ringing void who writes and approves shit like that
@sinvega @TechCrunch I think that's my favorite post so far.
@theshaunwalker wish i could say i was surprised but ive also been pointing at their hypocrisy for 10 years now.
@bobmagicii @theshaunwalker In you opinion, is there a good FOSS alternative that is also run by a non-profit? I'm not trolling, it's a legit question.
@JebKFan @theshaunwalker no i genuinely do not know of any browser in 2024 that still has morals instead of a ceo. my personal backup browser is Vivaldi, yet another chrome based browser but its from the original Opera people that left when it was sold to China.
@bobmagicii @theshaunwalker Thanks, I might take a look. And what were your moral issues with Firefox?
@JebKFan @theshaunwalker step one would be to do a clean install of firefox and see how the default settings are not are private as they should be despite how they claim all the defaults are private perfect. the big one is their "studies" project which constantly installs ad studies without people knowing.
step two would be to research their history of corrupt ceo scandals, as well as their market share vs the ceo salary.

@TechCrunch did @mozilla fire useless managers or important coders?
@TechCrunch they grow up so fast
@TechCrunch
My name is on that thing. I'm rather regretting that now.
@TechCrunch I'm not sure Mozilla's hypocrisy & spinelessness was doing that team any favors anyways...
@TechCrunch good riddance to advocacy
@TechCrunch non una buona notizia... Alla fine rimarrà solamente chrom*qualcosa. Che è una pessima notizia
@TechCrunch [ripping copper out of the walls to pay for more gambling] we're in such a turbulent economic climate!!!
@TechCrunch
> We find ourselves in a relentless onslaught of change in the technology (and broader) world, and the idea of putting people before profit feels increasingly radical.
* purchases advertising company *
* pushes default-enabled ad tech to everyone *
* focuses on LLM slop *
* reduces effort in one of only two counters to Google controlling all web browsers *
Radical indeed.
