Someone asked if I could make a poster for people who have immunocompromised whānau at home.

Feel free to use and share this so we can all do our part to protect our most vulnerable from Covid! 😷

There are now more Christophers than there are Māori in the National Party.

This isn’t a new problem for National but Simon Bridges’ exit from politics this week only makes it even more profound. @NewsroomNZ Pro

Pictures like these look scary, but we could in theory provide all the US's current electricity generation from covering an area equal to that of current coal mines with solar panels. Land use is more of a political constraint than a feasibility one.

That makes it sound trite. Full of inconsequential things. But it's not - it's just... A nice place.

One of the most fascinating papers I've read for a long time: People dislike their political opponents for views that most don't actually hold. [Preprint; N = 4,993.] psyarxiv.com/cr23g/

OK, tried out a new unit in my intro to philosophy class, and it is my new favorite unit: "Are Grades Bullshit?"

I have never seen intro students more intensely engaged, more edge-of-their-seat, and more mind-blown.

Kind of feels like we're moving from @semi_rad@twitter.com's 3rd to 4th step of climate change a bit quicker than expected.

The NZ SeaRise tool shows you how movement of the land and climate change combine to affect sea-level rise every 2km along our coastline. Check out searise.nz/maps for projections and start planning for sea-level rise now. @WellingtonUni@twitter.com @gnsscience@twitter.com @niwa_nz@twitter.com

And I discovered that aphantasia was a thing.

And that I have it.

And trust me reader, the rest of his Note was as mind-blowing for me as it was for him, as I travelled that self-same journey with him.

And if you don't already know about aphantasia, feel free to read his revelations here:

In light of recent news and an increased interest in alternatives, I've updated my Mastodon Quickstart Guide with the latest info on apps and such.

Mastodon isn't something you need to move wholesale to! Start migrating today!

Here is the tl;dr for the #newbies about #Mastodon terms:

Toot = a post (or 'tweet')
Boost = re-sharing content (or 'retweet')
Favourite = liking or bookmarking something (or a 'star')
CW = content warning (basically self-censoring a post)
Instance = a version of Mastodon (like a Discord server or Reddit subreddit)

Remember 2 things:

1. if you don't like the way an instance is governed, you can always choose another
2. The internet isn't the be-all of life. Go outside & enjoy the sunshine

To my knowledge there's three Mastodon instances in New Zealand:
- cloudisland.nz
- mastodon.nz
- mastodon.nzoss.nz

Do you know of any others? Sing out!
