WhatsApp users beware: the app will now force users to agree to share data (i.e. phone numbers, other people’s numbers stored in address books, location, etc.) w/Facebook (even if you've previously opted out).

Time to switch to @signalapp!

So disapointing. Spent whole day driving and sitting the datacenter. most of the time (went to rack a single server for my dayjob) I spent waiting for engineers in the datacenter to either come to open a rack for me (which imo is total joke on its own), or waiting for replies to tickets like inactive port on the switch etc.

1 hour job just turned into whoel day of sitting on my ass once in warm corridor and when i get too warm in cold corridor, since the fucking customer area is closed because of fucking covid.

I am so greatful to datacenters where disroot stuff is. Small, open 24/7 totally self service (no need to ask shit) and if there are issues stuff is resolved quick with staff being visible and aproachable usually wihtout need to make tickets.

So remember. Support local small DC's instead of big shitty ones. Often not even more expensive.

Thankfully there were wins for privacy in 2020, explains @jmorse_, such as:
* Regional bans of face recognition tech
* California Consumer Privacy Act came into effect, with impact beyond California
* Stronger calls for encryption, e.g. in messaging apps.

Do you add "1" to the end of a password to make it stronger? Or capitalize the first letter? There's a better way, says @lhautala, including:
* Break up common words
* Use a password manager

Fresh from England. Viking horn drinking cups. Yeah, these are made from buffalo, but I'm not counting that.

"You should take steps to limit Facebook’s data collection. While you can shave the money FB makes selling ads targeted to your interests, this tactic isn’t as effective as spending less time—or no time at all—on the service."
