Stop devaluing your writing by slapping an ugly as fuck error-ridden AI image on your article/blogpost/newsletter.

@Nickiquote Oooft, IKR? There's one particular account that does this *all the time* and I've had to Take Steps because I don't want that shit on my timeline.

@fkamiah17 I block them on sight and the one I just blocked I thought, you know I probably would have actually read the article but for that.

@Nickiquote The particuclar one I was talking about has a huge following and reports good stuff, and I've brought up the whole AI thing with them directly, but to no avail. I don't even know why you'd bother when there are plenty of objectionable IRL images of 47/Putin etc to choose from.

@fkamiah17 @Nickiquote
I think I may have taken similar steps with the same person you're talking about.

@Nickiquote But others please *do* use an AI slob image (preferable one that already exists to not further burn the planet) to illustrate your AI slob written article, so we don't have to waste time reading it, cheers.

@jfml @Nickiquote Doesn't help so much for those of us who aren't particularly good at spotting it :-(

@richardh @Nickiquote Yeah, sure I'd be up for laws to mark / identify when an image is aigen (and ways to enforce this / hefty fines) but I don't think that's gonna happen.

@Nickiquote In olden times AI generated images were a novelty, but now if I see an article with an obvious AI image I just close it. AI generated images now signal inauthenticity and a contemptuous "can't be bothered" attitude towards readers.

@Nickiquote@mstdn.social I would prefer if they made something in ms paint because at least that shows they tried. it doesn't have to be good. I don't know why people think they need to have images and graphics for things.

@Nickiquote If you don't value the works the AI stole to generate that image, why should I value your writings?

As far as I know, there's no ethically trained image generator, yet.

@BoydStephenSmithJr yeah, once they invent an AI that is 100% trained on works they legally acquired and doesn’t use an absurd amount of energy then i might change my opinion on this (keyword is might)

@Nickiquote using AI let's everyone know that you don't care about your brand. That you're too lazy to do something correctly or that you value discounts/convenience over the quality or your product. This goes for all applications

@Nickiquote
I would love to have art for my stories.

I can't afford to pay an artist at this time.

So my stories don't have art.

Putting an AI plagiarism piece of crap on my writing would be an insult to all the artists I can't pay, and would make my writing feel like crap, too. I played around with AI like everyone else when it first became available to the general public. It sucked then, and it sucks even more now that I know how it's a model of theft. I now block AI whenever I see it.

@realtegan @Nickiquote I, for one, would like a link to these stories.

@Klaxun @Nickiquote

I don't know about the AI Illustrated stories from the first post, but my stuff generally resides on Patreon now, with a chunk of it free: patreon.com/tegan

@realtegan @Nickiquote Sorry I wasn't clear, Laura. I was asking for the link you provided. Thanks!

@Nickiquote I never liked the "meaningless unrelated banner image" trend even before it was just AI bullshit. If there isn't an actual relevant image just give me the text. Ugh. SEO.

@Nickiquote One of our official campus offices did this for their web page and so far we have cringed, but no one has the heart to tell them. (I have been "that guy" on other things and it's not my turn on this one. Interoffice relations etc. etc.)

@Nickiquote It's a fad. Hopefully writers will realize how tacky GenAI images look and go back to using good old stock images.

@Nickiquote god, yes. I won't even go read it if there's a genAI slop image in the preview

@Nickiquote but 'ugly as fuck', and 'error-ridden' describes the content of most of my blog posts as well :p

(But I don't put AI art in anyway, cos fuck that noise)

@Nickiquote And PAY for your stock photos made by photographers!

@Nickiquote You don't think they had the computer do the writing as well?

@Nickiquote It's a helpful sign that the writer has nothing to say that I'll want to read.

@Nickiquote -- Guilty as charged, your honor. But I'm trying to do better. The more AI slop I see, the more determined I am not to slip over to the dark side.

@Nickiquote this is creeping into music, have seen a few AI generated cover. You spend all that time writing, recording and 5 min for an AI bot to make a cover. Think more of your work.
