Lorry

'As the reporter Shayan Sardarizadeh put it, “These days, if you want to find the latest conspiracy theories trending on Twitter, the easiest thing to do is to check tweets Elon Musk replies to, you’ll find most of them.”'

The AtlanticElon Musk’s Anti-Semitism Was InevitableBy Yair Rosenberg

@Lorry I don't have a subscription so can't read the whole thing, but this also has to be cast in another light. Soros dumped his entire position in Tesla stock a couple of days ago. So, it's also getting even on a personal level. Whether Musk is anti-Semitic or not, I don't know. I don't follow him or read what he writes.

@Lorry Ah, thanks, should have thought of that route to it. I would agree with the point, but there's also the implied need to tie criticism of Soros to being Jewish. Otherwise if someone hated all currency speculators and saw Soros as historically a leader in that field, would the rhetoric be antisemitic if it was applied to other major speculators? I don't know. Though I've never liked or admired Musk. His readiness to pettily cast aspersions is ridiculous.

@eriksherman My feeling is that "Soros" just sounds kind of evil, a bit like "Fagin" - So it's easy to remember, and rolls off the tongue in a spitting way. He's a convenient bogeyman and just happens to be very liberal.

@Lorry Certainly. But in this case he's not just a general bogeyman. There's a deeply personal aspect to it. Like, "hate my stock, hate me." Whatever the case, Musk seems like a deeply screwed up individual.
