Really disappointed to hear the BBC lunchtime news still talking about "illegal" immigration.
Surely someone must have explained to them by now that entering the country by irregular routes for the purposes of seeking asylum is NOT ILLEGAL.
It's hard to escape the conclusion that the continued use of the term "illegal" represents bad faith.
@statsguy For my sins, I used to work on content and comment #Moderation for #ABCNews local sites - Because the generally vile commentors weren't allowed to use racial slurs, the trend at the time was to use "Illegals" in the same way as they'd have used the #NWord 50 years earlier.
I hated that moderation role more than any I have ever had, it was crawling through rotting mental sewage - But yeah, I see any mention of #illegals or #IllegalImmigrants as a #Racist dog-whistle now.
