Juggling With Eggs

economy booming in the UK…

‘The net zero sector is growing three times faster than the overall UK economy, analysis has found, providing high-wage jobs across the country while cutting climate-heating emissions and increasing energy security’

and proved wrong again. But will any of this be reported in the rightwing rags and on GBeebies?

The Guardian · Britain’s net zero economy is booming, CBI saysBy Damian Carrington

@JugglingWithEggs

#Tories and #Reform proved wrong again. But will any of this be reported in the rightwing rags and on GBeebies?

Nope

@JugglingWithEggs

That kind of rapid progress is why the fossil fuel industry funds far right movements in every democracy taking steps towards a fossil fuel phase out.

The new Axis alliance, Russia, Saudi Arabia and will attack any democracy freeing itself from their fascist hegemony.

They are desperate to keep frying the planet & retain their captive consumer markets.

@JugglingWithEggs In fairness, "3x faster than the rest of the UK economy" doesn't necessarily mean much. It's a lucky month if we're treading water.

@JugglingWithEggs what’s Gbeebies in this context? The Guardian?

@JugglingWithEggs
More to the point, will Rachel from Accounts notice. Here’s where her desired growth will come from, so let’s revitalise the Green New Deal.
#UKPolitics #ClimateAction

@KimSJ @JugglingWithEggs This has always been a nobrainer. I've seen the claim decades ago, and now it's happening. And that doesn't even consider the national-sovereignty aspect: it is not a good idea to be dependent on enemy petrostates on both sides of the pond.

@martinvermeer @KimSJ

There is currently a ceiling on growth…Labour understands it needs to upgrade the national grid, to ensure that new renewables can be plugged in, but also so it can cope with more homes and businesses running on electricity for warmth (heat pumps) and transport (EVs).

But what they don’t get is the scale of the skills shortage. We need to train and upskill people in every part of the country to work on renewables & retrofit.

@JugglingWithEggs @KimSJ What they (and everybody and his uncle) seem also to be missing is that part of that national-grid upgrade can be substituted by now rapidly cheapening grid storage, if smartly co-located with sources and sinks. And that comes almost for free as it is needed to handle the intermittency anyway.

@KimSJ @JugglingWithEggs why repeat Reform fans' "Rachel from Accounts" jibe? Didn't think those were your politics.
#ukpol #ukpolitics

@JugglingWithEggs @KimSJ that sexist name-calling is not only disparaging, but playing into the "all politicians are awful, so let's elect an obvious grifter who will grift for us" (they never do) story that the neo-fascists use to get elected. Please criticise her actions while avoiding helping them portray her as an overpromoted minor office worker.

@mjr @JugglingWithEggs
It’s only sexist if 1) you think that ‘from accounts’ can only refer to women, and 2) that pointing out that someone is inadequately qualified to do their job is sexist if the person referred to is female.
The point of the jibe (which I think is well earned) is to emphasise that Reeves belongs to that class of people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing. Which seems exactly to sum up Reeves’ homespun accounting.

@KimSJ @JugglingWithEggs no, one can also think it sexist if they realise that sexists call women "N from DEPT" while mostly giving men their actual job titles.

The point of the lazy name-calling is to belittle and help get Reform elected. Don't fall for it.

@KimSJ @JugglingWithEggs it's not really a whole lot better if you're saying it's OK to call an MP a name inspired by a dog, is it?

@mjr @JugglingWithEggs
OK, you have convinced me. Whilst I would happily sling the same insult at persons of any gender, if they had the same narrow view of their Treasury role, I accept that others might see sexism. I will refrain from using that sobriquet in the future.
