That.
Looks.
Fantastic!

Really love the picture 🤩

@JenniferJorgenson This looks AI generated. Is this a real photo or not?

@JenniferJorgenson Great picture! Do you have the source of the high-res quality of this picture? Thanks :)

@JenniferJorgenson

Very beautiful !
Would you have it with a better resolution ?

@JenniferJorgenson Niche image, but likely false: The Yosemite Firefall is created because the sun shines on it from the side. Thus the moon cannot be illuminated from the front.

Dammit. Thanks, I should QC these things before I boost them.

@sergedroz @TidalFlats @glasspusher @JenniferJorgenson FWIW, many photos that are absolutely unbelievable are that way because they're not real. As soon as I saw this, I figured there was some degree of manipulation going on, but I assumed it was just some creative coloring. I guess this one goes beyond that. I still like it though.

@bit101 @sergedroz @TidalFlats @JenniferJorgenson

There's a ton of things to see in Yosemite and the rest of the world that don't need to be manipulated to be breathtaking.

"Go outside- the graphics are amazing!”

@glasspusher
Always ask the experts. Any time you need to know about disgusting bottom feeding invertebrates let me know.

@glasspusher @sergedroz @JenniferJorgenson @TidalFlats When we watch movies these days we constantly wonder if the settings are real or CGI. Then we remember, "real" movie sets are fake too, just in 3D.

there were many parts of that movie that scared the ever loving shit out of me when I was a kid.

Also I was totally fascinated by tornadoes as a kid

Image generator did a poor job making 'wizard of oz flying monkey clowns'. Not really up for trying again.

@12thRITS @sergedroz @TidalFlats

the original image was put up without attribution. Yosemite is fantastic enough on its own that it doesn't need help. I don't have any problem with art or CGI, but this wasn't sold as such

You know me, man. I've shown you stuff in my scope that most people don't even know they can see. Stuff like this diminishes what people might think they can see in the real world.

There's more than enough beauty out there- stuff beyond human imagination- without it needing help- it just needs good documentation

@glasspusher @12thRITS @TidalFlats I don't think there is a problem with making things up, that's what artists do. It is important to say if it's made up or not. Most spy novels are made up, but not all. With pictures that's not so easy to determine from context, so that's why it's a good idea to say it's artificial.

We can't make generative AI and Photoshop go away, but we can use them responsibly. And they have their uses.

@JenniferJorgenson

For everyone. The Yosemite Firefall was a man made event where they started a fire at the top and pushed the embers off. This form of entertainment went on for nearly 100 years and was stopped in the late 1960s. Due to the amount of people and the opposite of preserving the natural land.
The natural Firefall was then 'discovered' at a different waterfall location. It's from the setting sun. And, of course, now this is doing the same thing.

@JenniferJorgenson into waterfall müsste die Bildschirm sein oder?

@JenniferJorgenson
Call for help, that cliff is trying to steal the moon’s sun!

@JenniferJorgenson
I'd love to retoot this, but the alt-text is quite unhelpful :/
