OK, sorta pumped, because they published my Letter To The Editor the day after I sent it.

Re: Benedict Lucchese’s March 21 letter, “Forms promote false ideology”: The letter referred to school forms about pronouns and wanted me to “demand this stop.” Why? What possible difference could it make in my life how someone else chooses to be addressed? What possible difference could it make in my child’s life? Or the letter writer’s life? This is just the latest “crisis” manufactured by what used to be a respectable political party. They had policies, now they just serve up the latest group they want to cast out, and the base eagerly follows along. To the letter writer: it’s not “your” country, it’s ours. All of us, including the ones who fill out pronoun forms at school. It’s simple courtesy to address someone the way they choose to be addressed. I don’t, for example, insist on calling a married woman by her husband’s last name if she wants to keep her own name. This is no different. It doesn’t hurt me in the slightest to show a minimum level of respect for other people, and I’ll continue to do that. I encourage the author of the letter to do the same. I promise you, courtesy will not bring about the end of life as we know it. It might even make things better.

Thank you so much for writing a letter-to-the-editor. It's so important for the wider community to hear from their neighbors directly like that.

Back when I lived in Salt Lake and wrote them on our , I would send the links to them electronically or even printed out and via snail mail on to my elected representatives to help show them what their constituency is saying as well.
