@GottaLaff much of their funding could come from subscriptions to their info/services from States ill equipped to do all that on their own.
@GottaLaff This should attract scientists from across the country, if it happens. Hopefully other large states will follow with their own.
this is a great idea! Seceding, as it were, from the illnesses of the body politic.
If the states get to create their own departments that the Feds closed, including maybe education, I can see blue states pulling way ahead of red in every metric.
@GottaLaff creating these direct bonds and shared infrastructure between the states can provide the seeds for what comes next if the federal government collapses and ease the transition if the USA breaks up into several parts
I think we'll have to do this as well. California needs to start our own programs if the federal government isn't going to provide the funding.

@GottaLaff I'd like a replacement for the NIH but I work in a NIH funded lab so I have a conflict of interest.
I'd really like a california vaccine program to go through because vaccines are a cheap and effective way to keep a whole lot of people safe from a bunch of terrible diseases.

Something I haven’t seen talked about is that the federal government collects around 10 ⨉ more tax from tax payers than the states do because they fund programs for the greater good. However, the trump administration is demolishing these programs but will not cut taxes for even close to a factor of 10 for most people.
Because of this, even California will not be able to raise taxes to replace the federal government. These people are burning America to the ground, and we are all going to be sicker and poorer because of it.

They're cutting funding that can't just go away or be spent on anything else so perhaps arrangement can be made.
@GottaLaff At this point states will have to do everything itself considering what the TFG is doing to our govt.

@GottaLaff That would be the sensible thing to do. Blue States need to become autonomous.
California needs to be more business friendly while staying person friendly but there's a chance. Most other blue states need to form an alliance
