Weeks ago I released the top 5 best states to be trans in. Subscribers wanted to know the top 5 worst.

I have tracked anti-trans legislation for 3 years. Here are the top 5 hardest states to be trans.

Erin In The MorningTop 5 Hardest States To Be TransgenderBy Erin Reed

I will note that even within these states, people have found community and safety. Cities tend to be safer than the rural areas and in many cases can act as defense against harsh anti-trans laws.

People in these states often cannot move and should not be forgotten about.

When reading this list, know that it is based on legislation targeting the trans community. Do not advocate for "kicking X state out" or any statement that implies the people who live there are lesser for having to stay there.

Our trans siblings need us to fight for them.

@ErinInTheMorn: Well, there's the precedent of putting state election laws under federal supervision.

There might be some value in passing a federal law that requires states get a federal sign-off before they can enforce new anti-trans laws.

@ErinInTheMorn
Agreed. Its going to be a difficult time for trans people, especially trans youth, in quite a number of states and many won't be able to flee to the safety of more caring or enlightened states.

@ErinInTheMorn as much as I disagree with our very corporate Dem governor, I recognize he’s pretty much the sole thing standing between us and NC turning into Texas. And I feel lucky, which is a weird feeling

@ErinInTheMorn

No Ohio? I am confident that our Bickeye State can find new, nay, revolutionary ways by which an intolerant minority can shackle all just attempts to live an honest life.

@ErinInTheMorn no shockers here, unfortunately. I’m a little surprised Mississippi isn’t on the list, TBH.
